Senior School

I don’t know if it’s the Senior fever or what - I am super excited about going back to school! And to boot, it is going to be the last time ever coming off of the Christmas holidays and entering into a new school year! What even?!

There’s no denying that us seniors are going to have to work our buts off this year. Stress, stress and more stress - yes, cannot wait… But I’m pretty sure there are heaps of things that we can do to make the year the best year yet.

Stationery:

If you haven’t already, for goodness sake, get you stationery sorted. I have all of my books bought from Typo. If you’re a perfectionist like me, or even just like things to be neat and mildly organised, get books that you enjoy looking at - ones that have character or style. If you’re a guy reading this, you probably prefer something less girly… You can go for simpler books obviously, just keep them neat and make sure they have a little quality to them.

Personally, I like to have all of my notes in the one place - so for my heavier subjects I grabbed some mega thick notebooks. Heavier subjects for me are Physics and Chemistry and Maths - I just seem to write more.

You will notice that all of my books are spiral notebooks… This is because, like most, I like to fold the book so that it’s just the one A4 page that I’m writing on instead of a fully spread out book. And plus I think they’re uber cute.

Study:

I would be failing you if I didn't mention this point. You must be organised and resist the urge to procrastinate. Find an app that shuts down your access to social media sites while writing an essay. Study for exams by using flash cards and learn that quality over quantitiy is best when studying. Don't sit around for 3 hours dilly dallying around with your essay when it could be taking you a meer hour.

Extra Curricular:

This sounds nerdy, but trust me, extra curricular encompasses anything - and I mean ANYTHING!

Find some extra curricular activities to participate in. extra Curricular activities are critical in setting yourself apart from the crowd when applying for universities and careers.

Here are some ideas:

- Join a sporting club

This could be anything from signing up to your local cricket club or running with an organisation.

- Learn a musical instrument

- Audition for a part in your School’s Musical

- Do some photography

- Publish a blog!

- Start a YouTube channel

- Learn a foreign language

Trust me, this will be an amazing adventure and something that will last forever.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure it is something you have passion for! Universities are’t looking for specific extra curricular activities, they are looking for commitment, passion and drive. If you start something and find it’s not for you, find another activity - no biggy.

Meet New People:

Meeting new people and actually having meaningful conversations with them and just generally getting to know them is the best thing ever. Don’t believe me? That’s ok. It’s kind of a love hate thing - we want to make more friends and experience everyone, but we don’t want to be put in the spot light for judgment.

But think about it this way you’ll get more enjoyment talking to someone than you will sitting in your seat thinking about talking to hat person but never plucking up the right amount of courage. Just smile and be yourself. Focus on them and not on how awkward you feel.

Start Planning for Formal:

Or prom if that’s what you call it. This is going to be insanely girly, but every girl has a super girly side - don’t you dare deny it! I am super excited to go shopping with friends to find the perfect thing for everyone! Ah so much excitement. Finding the perfect dress will most likely take more than a couple of hours - and if it doesn’t tell me where your fairy godmother lives. Along with your dress you have to plan for hair and makeup (If you want) and shoes, and purses and more shoes because you always need more shoes.

Build Up Your relationship With Your Teachers:

Your teachers are probably the most valuable resources available to you throughout you last year of school. Make sure you ask for feedback, talk to them, ask them how they are going - just talk to them! Make sure you make it known that you are appreciative of all their hard work. You never know, they may be able to help you out in the future in regards to work or University studies - or even international travel if your teacher is into that kind of thing.

So there you go. Whatever you do, make sure you do it because you want to do it or because it will get you closer to your ultimate goal.

Just a little something I thought you should know:

A bonus for buying at Typo is the knowledge that their products are eco-friendly and recycled.
